Schedule is used as a basic guide only.  Times are subject to change and flexibility is used throughout each day and week.

Week 1:
Gettin' in the Groove
Main Objectives:

~ learning the jobs system
~ learning classroom rules/use of supplies, toys
~ recognizing names/friends
~ adjusting to the school routine (daily/weekly)

D ~ daily
M - F ~ days of week

until 8:30 am Free Choice Play – with various themed activities
~Morning prep time~
file folder games about friends
match objects to dots (fig. 6-14, Exp. in Math - Young Children)
pre-assessment of each child (one-on-one)

8:30 - 9:00

Group Activity (Board Games, Activity Buckets, Puzzles, Group Games, Art, Cooking)
M ~ Make play dough & paint (3 cups flour, 2 T. liquid soap, 3/4 cup water, coloring.  Mix well.  Add Karo for glistening effect when dry.)
T ~ Let's Get Cookin' for snack time
W ~ Name Puzzles - names written on outside of envelope, name inside is cut apart on index cards.  Children reassemble theirs or their friends' names using the envelope as help
Th ~ Duck-duck-goose
F ~ Friendship Memory
Group Art:  "Friend Collage" (using pictures of each other - glue onto large paper to hang)

9:00 – 9:15

Diapers, Restroom, Wash hands
9:15 – 9:30 Snack, Extra-Curricular/Seasonal  Story time, Clean up
M ~ Friendship Salad (Each child adds an ingredient into the fruit salad while we discuss how working together helps everyone enjoy school.  Then, attempt to add a rotten banana and talk about how no one wants to be the rotten banana that ruins the whole salad/class.) - Clifford Goes to Dog School
F ~ "Friendly Face" snack - Sam Goes to School
9:30 – 9:45 Morning Meeting (literacy, math, theme):
Daily Activities:
M - F ~ Graph: girls/boys in class
M - F ~ Pattern:  AB = girl, boy
M - F ~ Begin Year-long timeline/number line
M – F ~ Morning Meeting Report
M - F ~ Guess Who?:
Each day, put one student's name (mixed-up) on a magnetic surface using magnetic letters.  Have the students see if they can figure out who's name it is before Morning Meeting/Circle Time.  Once someone guesses the correct answer, have that student come up and put the letters in the correct order.  Then use their name to reinforce letter identification.

Discuss the importance of listening to directions.

Discuss our class pet, Creamy and how to treat her.

Table Activities (Morning Meet. Extension – games, art)

M ~ Label table, cubbies, hooks with children's names/pictures
M ~ Make class friends puzzle (using an old puzzle, paint front side a solid color, put a picture of each child on the front of one piece and let them decorate their piece "We fit together" - might be able to find blank puzzle to decorate)
T ~ Name Mobiles
W ~ Decorate Time Capsules
Th ~ Beehive paper mache/pinata

F ~ Back to School Book (featuring pictures of each of the children and a sentence, "My name is ___________.  I like to ________ at school."

Homework to discuss:
(mail out w/welcome letters to bring the first day, Monday, Aug. 13) ~ Decorating cut outs to look like themselves (mail out with welcome letters to bring the first day, Monday Aug. 13)
M / W ~ Who Am I? Class Book: Have each student write or dictate 3 clues about themselves onto a page.  The last line of everyone’s page should be: Who am I?

10:00 - 10:45

Outside Play (Large motor act. indoors in bad weather) - one organized activity will be offered along with plenty of time for free play

12:30 – 12:45 D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read)   

12:45 – 1:00

Restroom, Wash hands, Brush teeth, Nap mats

1:00 – 3:00

Children's Choice story time & Nap time (Story at 1:00, put on short show after story/discussion, TV off after nap time show.)
