**These links are not part of a link exchange nor does MommyNature.com receive any affiliation benefits from sharing them here. All links are provided as a quality service and resource. Look into information and websites before presenting them to your child. It’s important to understand what is reasonably expected of your child(ren) at various developmental levels. The two links below are simply meant as a general guide in understanding your child’s development and will likely be adjusted to fit your needs as you work with them. Straight from the Minnesota "horse's mouth", The Early Childhood Indicators of Progress are intended to be used as a guide for children in the preschool period of ages 3 to 5. The indicators are based on widely held developmental expectations observed in a child approximately four years of age. It is expected that most children will meet the majority of these expectations by the end of the pre-kindergarten year. Because normal development varies greatly from child to child, the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress document is intended to be a flexible guide in describing a child's individual progress. The same is true for the Arkansas Infant/Toddler Care Frameworks, adjusting for age, of course. Depending on the age(s) of your child(ren), look over (don't try to memorize) the guide applicable for you to get a feel of what’s expected. Since it was written for educators used to the jargon, don't feel silly is some of the wording is confusing to you. It can be a bit overwhelming if you try and remember all the information given. Remember, it's there if you want to go back to it, just get a feel for what's expected. If you want real specifics and your child is close to age 4, contact your child’s school district for a Kindergarten readiness checklist specific for your school system.
